I think I mentioned this recently, but YoYoTricks has been in the process of redesigning their very own Civility yo-yo to give it a bit of a face lift. Not that the original Civility wasn’t a good design, but it never hurts to make something better.
The Civility was my first serious unresponsive yo-yo, and it is by far the most used throw in my collection. In recent months, however, I found it to be a bit clunky for my level of play and as a result I have moved away from it in favour of lighter yo-yos. And this is exactly why Adam Bottiglia and the crew over at YoYoTricks decided to give it an update. They realized that, like me, many players were using the Civility for learning but tended to move away from it as they advanced (you can check out Adam’s thoughts on it from his AMA on the /r/Throwers Subreddit). Hence, we now have the Civility 2.0 on hand, although they are still just calling it the Civility.
This new Civility retains the same overall shape of the original design but manages to shed some weight to bring it down to 67.5 grams (see the full specs below). According to the information that Adam just sent to me, this was accomplished by removing some of center mass while retaining the mass on the outer rims. Add to that a new ceramic center trac bearing and you have a yo-yo that players will have a harder time outgrowing.
Even better is that the Civility 2.0 is selling for $12 less than the original. This is really great to see, because the price of the original Civility might have been the biggest complaint that I saw about it on the different community sites. Keep in mind that the Civility is machined in the US, so this now makes it a competitively priced American made yo-yo with a ceramic bearing.
I am quite excited to try out this updated Civility given that I have such a soft spot in my heart for the original (which I still own and never plan on selling).
